Weather Contributes to Cause of a Two Vehicle Accident

The Leelanau County Sheriff's Office along with Cedar Fire Department responded on January 28th, at 1404hrs, to a two vehicle traffic crash on Bright Road north of Kasson Road.  Upon arrival emergency respondents found one driver pinned in her vehicle and the other driver suffering from injuries as well.

The investigation found that a 2007 Hyundai driven by a 47yr old Maple City woman, was southbound on Bright Road and a 2001 Jeep driven by a 56yr old Kasson Township woman was northbound on Bright Road.  The weather conditions at the time of the collision reduced visibility significantly and the road was blown over and narrowed at the time.  It appears both vehicles moved towards the center of the roadway to avoid the snowbanks and collided almost head on.  The driver of the Jeep was pinned inside of her vehicle and had to be extricated by Cedar Fire personnel.  Both drivers were transported to Munson Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.  A passenger in the Hyundai was uninjured.

The accident remains under investigation and no citations have been issued.
