The Leelanau County Sheriff's Office is changing it's policy related to motor vehicle accidents that occur on private property. Our agency will now respond and take information from all parties involved detailing what occurred on a private property accident report form. This form will be filed with our agency available to the drivers involved and their insurance company.
Since law enforcement officers do not determine fault for vehicle collisions that occur on private property this form will be informational only and will help with supplying the necessary information for citizens when they are dealing with auto insurance questions.
This practice will begin Monday, January 27th. We hope this will provide a valuable service to the citizens of the County.
