Source of reported gunshot located

Leelanau County deputies responded to E Murray Court in Bingham Township Wednesday afternoon for the report of a gunshot in a home.  A resident reported what they believed to be a gunshot coming from a neighbor's home.

Deputies and Suttons Bay Police checked several homes in the area and were able to determine that one of the neighbors had fired a muzzleloader behind his garage in his backyard to empty it at the end of hunting season.  No charges will be sought in the matter.

Probationer arrested as a no show for show cause

James G. Wemigwans, of Traverse City, was arrested in Grand Traverse County Wednesday on a Circuit Court bench warrant.  Wemigwans, 49, was wanted after failing to appear at a show cause hearing regarding $1410 in unpaid fines and costs.  The fines were a result of a conviction for Resisting and Opposing a Police Officer.

Wemigwans remains jailed in Leelanau County on $50 bond.  Once released, a payment plan will be reinstated to pay down the amount owed.
