Traffic stop lands driver and passenger in jail

The Leelanau County Secondary Road patrol deputy, whose focus is traffic enforcement, stopped a 34 year-old Traverse City man for a violation at 7:51 pm Monday.  The stop occurred on S. Lake Leelanau Drive near E. Duck Lake Road in Leland Township.  The driver was arrested because his license was suspended and his 26 year-old female passenger was also taken into custody when it was learned that there was a Friend of the Court warrant for her arrest.

Both were taken to the Leelanau County jail and the driver was released after posting $100 interim bond.  The female remains lodged until $550 bond is posted.

Driver goes to jail on his birthday

A 31 year-old Maple City man didn't get a very good birthday present when he was taken to jail for Operating while Intoxicated.  He was stopped on W. Traverse Highway near Solon Road in Solon Township at 2:45 am Tuesday by Leelanau County deputies.  The driver showed signs of intoxication and was put through field sobriety tasks.  He was arrested for OWI and is currently in the Leelanau County jail waiting for bond to be set.
