TC man arrested for passing bad checks

A 31 year-old Long Lake Township man was arrested in Grand Traverse County Tuesday on Leelanau County warrants for passing Non-Sufficient Funds checks under $100.  He is being held in the Leelanau County jail.

The man wrote checks to two Lake Leelanau and Suttons Bay businesses in the fall of 2012.  The checks were returned non-sufficient funds and efforts to have the man make the checks good were unsuccessful.  The charges carry a maximum 93 days in jail and $500 fine.

Spring weather also brings more car deer accidents
Since this signage is not really practical, it is up to motorists to
remain alert for deer crossing Leelanau County roads

As the temperatures rise and the snow melts, the deer population also becomes more active.  There have been 20 car/deer crashes and injured deer reports made to Leelanau County dispatch since March 21.

Motorists are reminded to be aware of large numbers of deer crossing county roads at all hours.  Remember that when you see deer by the road or crossing, there is often more that you don't see.

If you should have a deer collision, Leelanau County dispatch should be called immediately to report the crash, regardless of what time it occurs.  A deputy will be sent to complete a crash report.

Drive safe, be alert and welcome spring!
