Larceny from autos reported in Bingham Township early Thursday morning

Leelanau County Sheriff's Office deputies investigated 2 reports of stolen items from cars. The first was reported at 10:49 am Thursday morning and occurred on S Country Lane.  A guitar and a bag of change were stolen from an unlocked car sometime after midnight.

The second theft was called in at 3:47pm on E Fort Road in Bingham Township.  A purse was stolen from an unlocked vehicle in that case.

There was no physical evidence left at either scene but the two are believed to be related given the time frame and location of the thefts.  Anyone who believes their vehicle was entered or may have had items stolen Wednesday evening/Thursday morning is asked to call Leelanau County Dispatch to make a report.  Reports of suspicious vehicles or other information that may help solve these cases may be sent to tips@co.leelanau.mi.us, the confidential tip line 231-256-8696 or Silent Observer at 231-947-TIPS (8477).

Citizens are reminded that something as simple as locking your vehicle and not leaving valuables in plain view will deter the majority of thieves in Leelanau County.  Very few larceny from autos reported to the LCSO involved forced entry.  Most situations allowed the thief to simply open the unlocked door to gain access.
