Suttons Bay man headed to prison for passing bad checks
Mark J. Plagens, 50, was sentenced to 16-24 months in the Michigan Department of Corrections for passing No Account Checks in 2010. Plagens pleaded guilty to the charge in 2010 but was sentenced Monday after violating terms of the two years probation which were imposed.He wrote checks totalling $2,000 to Susan A. Petty, 45, from his Peshawbestown Cab business account which had been closed by the bank. 4 checks were written and passed at various Northwestern Bank locations in Traverse City on June 7, 2010. Petty pleaded guilty to writing 3 checks within 10 days in 2010 and was sentenced to 1 year in jail.
Plagens' wife Theresa A. Plagens, 37, was also convicted of writing a non-sufficient funds check over $500 relating to this case and received 64 days in jail.
All three suspects were ordered to pay $2,157 in restitution to Northwestern Bank.
