Man arrested for assaulting neighbor

A 30 year-old Elmwood Township man was arrested for hitting his landlord's son after an argument Sunday.  Leelanau deputies were called by the 36 year-old son of the homeowner.  He lives in the basement of his mother's home and the upstairs is rented to the suspect, his mother and sister.

At 11:30 am Sunday, an argument occured between the suspect's mother and the downstairs neighbor over unpaid rent and other tenant-related issues.  The suspect took exception to how the man was speaking to his mother and admitted to slapping the man in the face.  The victim said he was punched in the face and received a bloody nose.  No medical treatment was sought.

The suspect was arrested for simple assault and posted $100 cash bond pending a court appearance Friday.
