Deputies respond to report of domestic assault

Leelanau County deputies were sent to Glen Arbor Township at 1:35 am Saturday to investigate a domestic assault complaint.  The 21 year-old man had gone to his parents residence in Glen Arbor after the fight with his 19 year-old wife at their home in Kasson Township.

The man told deputies he returned home from a trip to the Upper Peninsula around midnight.  He picked up their infant child in his arems and then took his wife's cell phone from her in order to check past text messages and call logs.  He said he believed she was being unfaithful.

After discovering a text he believed was from another man, he smashed the phone.  While still holding the child, the two became involved in a physical confrontation and the woman bit the man on the face.  The injury was not serious and since the parties were separated, the Leelanau County prosecutor advised deputies to submit the report for his review without an arrest.  It was also determined that the child was safe and in the care of grandparents.
