Deported drug conspirator arrested in Leelanau County

A Texas man, convicted in Federal Court on drug conspiricy charges in 2005, was arrested in Leland Township on new drug charges and for returning to the United States after being deported.  Raul T. DelToro, 34, of Texas, was arrested by Leelanau County Sheriff's deputies and members of the Traverse Narcotics Team Monday evening.

A Leelanau investigator received information Monday that DelToro had returned to the county.  The suspect was located in the Lake Leelanau apartment of a relative.  He was in possession of a small amount of marihuana at the time of his arrest.  Federal ICE agents have placed a hold on DelToro pending federal prosecution involving his re-entry into the country after being deported in 2006.

DelToro was sentenced to federal prison in 2005 after pleading guilty to Interstate travel in aid of Racketeering, involving drug conspiracy and trafficking with convicted murderer Matthew O'Non of Suttons Bay.  Eight men were indicted and convicted in Federal Court involving drug conspiracy and related charges in an investigation conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Leelanau Sheriff's Office.

O'Non is serving two life sentences for the murders of Manuel Longoria and Raul Ramirez in May 2004 over a $30,000 unpaid marihuana debt.

DelToro was deported to Mexico after serving his federal prison term because he was in the United States illegally.  The suspect remains in the Leelanau County jail on the local drug charge pending federal action for illegal re-entry.

Elmwood Township man arrested for assaulting roommate

A 42 year-old man was arrested for second offense Domestic Violence after his room mate said the suspect punched him in the face over unpaid rent.  Deputies from the Leelanau County Sheriff's Office responded to the home at 8:18 pm Monday.

The 35 year-old victim had broken eye glasses and a bloody nose when deputies arrived.  He said his room mate punched him in the face after being confronted about rent money owed.  Medical treatment was refused.

Alcohol may have been a factor as the suspect's blood alcohol content upon arrival at the jail was .29%.  He remains jailed pending a bond being set by the magistrate.

The suspect was arrested for Domestic Violence because the victim and he reside in the same residence.  The man has a prior conviction for Domestic Assault.  Second offense Domestic Violence carries a 1 year maximum sentence and $1,000 maximum fine.
