Co-defendants all lodged in Empire home invasion case
Two defendants in the daytime Home Invasion of an Empire Township home were jailed by Judge Thomas Power on Monday. Samantha R. Brown,19 of Traverse City, had her bond revoked and a higher bond set at $25,000/10%. She can be released if $2,500 is posted.Brown is charged with Home Invasion 2nd degree for her involvement in the home invasion on January 5, 2013. She is accused of driving two co-defendants to and from the crime scene in her vehicle.
Cameron V. Schocko, 22, was sentenced by Judge Power to 24-60 months in Michigan Department of Corrections after a guilty plea to Home Invasion 2nd degree, a 15 year felony. Schocko and Mauricio L. Southbird entered the home and stole items including a shotgun, clothing and computer monitor and tower. They put the property into the trunk of Brown's waiting vehicle.
Southbird,18, is serving an 11 month sentence in the Leelanau County jail after pleading guilty last month to Larceny in a Building, a 4 year felony. Leelanau County deputies stopped the suspect vehicle several miles from the crime scene and recovered all the stolen property thanks to a watchful neighbor who called 911 to report the suspicious activity.
Drug defendant jailed for contempt of court Monday
Judge Thomas Power jailed accused drug dealer Tyler G. Morris when Morris told the judge he was unable to make drug screenings as ordered by the court. Morris was on bond for Delivery of a Schedule 4 Controlled Substance, a 4 year felony. He and three others were arrested by the Traverse Narcotics Team in March after an investigation into illegal prescription pill deliveries. He is jailed without bond.Also arrested were Amber M. Stein, 27, of Fife Lake, Raymond J. Stein, 30, of South Boardman and Jennifer A. Stein, 31, also of Fife Lake. They are charged with various counts of Delivery of Controlled Substances to an undercover drug agent. All three defendants remain free on bond pending future Circuit Court action.
Citizen report of suspected drunk driver results in High BAC arrest
A call to Leelanau 911 at 1:50am Tuesday about a suspected drunk driver landed a 42 year-old Traverse City woman in jail. She was arrested for Operating while Intoxicated with a High Blood Alcohol Content >.17%.The caller reported that the driver was too intoxicated to be driving. Deputies were advised and located the vehicle southbound on S. West Bay Shore Drive near Grandview Road in Elmwood Township. They observed signs of intoxicated driving and made a traffic stop. It was determined that the woman was believed to be intoxicated after failure of field sobriety tasks.
She was taken into custody and offered the Datamaster breath test. Her result was .23%. She remains lodged pending bond being set by the magistrate.
