Summer is here

The summer season has begun and with it, an increase in noise-related complaints received by Leelanau Dispatch.  Deputies were sent to 5 fireworks/gunshot reports and 5 loud party/ music/ barking dogs.  Law enforcement presence was also requested for 7 civil standbys, where parties could not get along and needed the police to monitor exchange of property, etc.


Warrant arrests made over the weekend

The following subjects were lodged in the Leelanau County Jail over the past weekend:

Jesus Manuel Perez, 19, Suttons Bay.  Arrested in Grand Traverse County Sunday on a misdemeanor warrant out of Leelanau County.  Perez remains jailed on the charge pending a court appearance.

Jeremie L. Lopez, 29, Suttons Bay.  Arrested by Leelanau deputies in Leelanau Township on Grand Traverse County misdemeanor warrant.  He was turned over to GT corrections officers after being booked at the Leelanau County jail.


OWI arrest made in Leland Township

A 23 year-old Rapid City man was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated Sunday morning.  Leelanau County deputies stopped the man for turning into the opposing lane on a side street of Lake Leelanau at 1:13am.  He showed signs of intoxication and failed field sobriety tasks.

He was arrested and given a Datamaster breath test at the jail and his result was .153.  He was released after posting interim bond and will appear Friday in District Court.

Tribal police arrest woman for OWI

Grand Traverse Band Tribal Police arrested a 49 year-old Traverse City woman for Operating While Intoxicated Friday at 9:00 pm.  The woman was stopped for speeding on N West Bay Shore Drive near Jacobson Road in Suttons Bay Township.  She showed signs of intoxication and failed field sobriety tasks.  She was arrested for OWI and Driving with a Suspended License 2nd or subsequent offense.  Her Datamaster breath test result was .08%.

She will appear in 86th District Court after posting interim bond.


Woman sentenced on drug charge

Jennifer Ann Stein, 31, of Fife Lake was sentenced to 30 days in jail and 24 months probation by Circuit Court Judge Philip Rodgers Friday.  She pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance after being arrested in March 2013 for delivering drugs to undercover Traverse Narcotics officers.
