Elmwood Township man seriously injured in mowing accident

Leelanau County deputies were the first to respond to the report of a man being injured in a riding lawnmower accident on S. Bay View Court Tuesday.  The mower rolled over and severely injured the 63 year-old driver's arm.  Deputies reassured the victim and rendered aid by applying pressure above the injury to reduce severe bleeding until Elmwood Township Rescue and NorthFlight Paramedics arrived.

Paramedics applied a tourniquet enroute to Munson Medical Center.  The victim survived the accident but lost his arm below the elbow as a result.  Residents are reminded of the potential dangers of lawn and garden work.  Click on this link for a lawn and safety checklist     http://www.wvu.edu/~exten/infores/pubs/safety/sa9-1.pdf.
