Parolee released from prison but taken to jail
A 30 year-old man was released from prison Tuesday but was turned over to Leelanau County corrections officers instead of being set free. Jacob O. Schaub was released from Camp Pugsley in Kingsley after serving 2 years for Home Invasion and 3rd Offense OWI.Schaub was arrested on two Leelanau County bench warrants for unpaid fines and costs totalling $2,534. The fines and costs were assessed after two Operating While Intoxicated convictions from separate arrests in October 2003, less than 2 weeks apart.
Schaub will appear in Circuit Court next week regarding the fines and costs owed.
Lake Leelanau man arrested for OWI
Leelanau County Sheriff's deputies stopped a Leland Township man for driving left of center and driving in the opposing lane after a turn Tuesday night. The man was stopped on S. French Road near E. Duck Lake Road at 10:35 pm. He showed signs of intoxication and failed field sobriety tasks given. After refusing the preliminary breath test, he was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated.The driver registered a .17% Datamaster breath test and was refused due to an insufficient air sample on the second test. A search warrant was obtained and the suspect was transported to Munson Medical Center for blood withdrawal.
He remains lodged pending bond being set by the magistrate.
