Drunk driver involved in single car crash
A 29 year-old Elmwood Township man was uninjured when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a power pole Sunday. The crash was reported at 9:28 pm on E. Lakeview Hills Road near Co. Road 633. An investigation by Leelanau County deputies showed the man's blood alcohol was nearly 3 times the legal limit at the time of the crash. He was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated with a High BAC >.17.The driver was released on a $2,000 personal recognizance bond pending a Friday District Court appearance.

Deputies manned several weekend events
Leelanau County Sheriff's deputies were busy working extra details over the weekend as the summer season got underway. Six officers worked the bike portion of the M-22 Challenge at key intersections on the 17 mile course. Marine deputies were on Little Glen Lake for the kayak portion of the race in addition to four National Park Service Rangers in the Dune Climb area. 900 participants were involved in the event and there were no crashes or injuries reported. The M-22 Challenge paid for the manpower assigned to the race.A deputy was also assigned to the inaugural Leland Harbor Run 5K race/walk in Leland. 40 participants ran and walked the course in Leland to benefit Leland Harbor dredging and Leland/Lake Leelanau St. Mary's cross county program.
Two deputies were assigned to the Leland Wine Festival, held in the Leland Harbor parking lot. The event was well-attended, with no police action needed. State Liquor Control Commission funds were used to pay for the officers to be at the event and scheduled road strength was no reduced.
Kingsley woman arrested on bench warrant
A 27 year-old woman wanted on an OWI bench warrant was arrested in Grand Traverse County Saturday. Santonya R. Winstone was transported to the Leelanau County jail and is being held on $2,000 bond. Winstone failed to appear for a show cause hearing after a 2013 Operating While Intoxicated conviction.Man arrested for spitting in girlfriend's face
A 24 year-old Lake Leelanau man was arrested for domestic violence early Saturday morning at his home. Leelanau Dispatch received a call from the victim at 12:44 am. She said that she and her boyfriend were arguing and he spit in her face.Leelanau County Sheriff's deputies responded and interviewed both parties and witnesses that were around the campfire when the incident happened. The man was arrested after the investigation was conducted. His blood alcohol content was .243% at the scene.
He was released later Saturday on a $2,500 personal recognizance bond pending a Friday court appearance.

Lake Leelanau woman cited for suspended driving
A 30 year-old woman will be in District Court for driving with a suspended license. She was observed driving on E Duck Lake Road near Sylt Road at 1:41 pm Thursday. A deputy knew the suspect did not have a valid license after dealing with her as a domestic assault victim a week prior.The woman was taken into custody and is being charged with Driving with License Suspended Third Offense and Driving without Security. Interim bond was posted by the suspect who will appear in District Court Friday.
Grand Rapids woman going to prison for OWI III
Nancy A. Shomin, 49, was sentenced to 30-60 months in the Michigan Department of Corrections recently. She was sentenced after several probation violations involving an Operating While Intoxicated conviction in 2011. Shomin is boot camp eligible if MDOC chooses to place her in the program.2 incarcerated on Friend of Court bench warrants
A Traverse City woman and Elmwood Township man were locked up over the weekend for unpaid child support.Rachel L. Ryner, 26, will serve 30 days. Jeff J. Dewey, 42, will serve 60 days if $800 bond is not posted. Dewey has arrearages of $8,927 outstanding.
