Tribal Police arrest suspended driver

Grand Traverse Tribal Police arrested a 19 year-old Peshawbestown woman for driving with a suspended license Wednesday.  The car was stopped at 8:46 am on Beems-Kwa-Ma-Mi-Kun Rd. for having an expired plate.  The driver was taken into custody and remains jailed pending posting of $1,000 cash bond.


Single car crash reported north of Northport

A single car crash on E Woolsey Lake Road near N Seven Pines was reported at 6:25 pm Wednesday.  Driver Gregory B. Strausser, 63 of Tucson Arizona, told Leelanau County deputies that he felt a sharp pain in his leg while driving.  He looked down and then realized he was driving into the trees.  Strausser was not injured.

Passenger Steadman A. Parker, 89 of Northport, was transported to Munson Medical Center by Northport Rescue for injuries sustained in the crash.  A small dog that was in the vehicle was killed as a result of the collision.  Safety belts were worn by the occupants and alcohol was not a factor in the crash.


Elmwood Township motorcycle crash injures man

A 25 year-old Traverse City man was injured Wednesday when his motorcycle left E Cherry Bend Road near S Dalzell.  Justin G. Wolfe was westbound at a high rate of speed when his cycle left the west side of the road and he was ejected.  He was transported to Munson Medical Center by Elmwood Rescue and was cited for having an improper registration plate.


Leelanau deputies cite 2 for MIP

A traffic stop at 11:44 pm Wednesday netted minor in possession tickets for two Elmwood Township women.  They were passengers in a vehicle driven by James T. Tierney, 30, of Leland when he was stopped on E Crain Hill Road near Lou Len Drive for an equipment violation.

Investigation revealed that all three occupants had been consuming intoxicants.  Both females told deputies that they were 21 years old but it was learned that they were actually 19 and 20.  They were cited for being Minors in Possession of Alcohol and given court dates in 86th District Court. 

Tierney passed field sobriety tasks and was not arrested.
