Glen Arbor man arrested for PPO violation

A 21 year-old Glen Arbor man was arrested Sunday for violating a personal protection order.  The man and his 20 year-old wife were involved in a domestic violence situation in April at their home.  Warrant requests were submitted for both parties after an investigation by the Leelanau County Sheriff's Office.  The Leelanau County prosecutor is still reviewing the case.

As a result of the April incident, the woman obtained a personal protection order which, among other things, prohibited her husband from coming onto the marital property.  The man admitted he removed a vehicle from the property which was a violation of the court order.  He was arrested at a relative's residence late Sunday night after being interview by Leelanau County deputies.

He remains jailed without bond until he goes before the Circuit Court judge on Monday.

No muskrat love for well-intended woman

A victim of an animal bite was reported to Leelanau County Dispatch Friday by a local medical facility.  Investigation by Leelanau County Animal Control indicated that the local woman was driving on N. Manitou Trail near Johnson Road in Leelanau Township Friday and saw a young muskrat running along the road.  Concerned that it would run into the road and be killed, she exited her vehicle and attempted to "shoo" the animal away from danger.  As she did so, the muskrat ran at her, bit her on the left foot, and ran across the road anyway.

The good samaritan was wearing sandals at the time and sought medical care when she believed the bite was becoming infected.  There was no need for rabies treatments as a result of the bite.

Citizens are reminded to leave wild animals alone and not to approach them, regardless of how cute or harmless they may appear.  If an animal is discovered injured, call Leelanau Dispatch and Animal Control or a deputy will be sent to assist.  There are animal rescue organizations that may take in injured animals as well.

Agency assist nets two arrests

Leelanau County Sheriff's deputies arrested two men at their Elmwood Township home on outstanding warrants Friday night.  Responding to a tip that a wanted subject was at the S. West Bay Shore address, deputies went to the residence and located not one, but two men who had warrants for their arrest.

Scott A. Adams, 32, was arrested on an Iosco County Family Court warrant for failing to appear. He was taken into custody and released after posting $100 bond.

Todd E. Davison, 29, was arrested and later turned over to Grand Traverse County authorities.  There was a bench warrant for his arrest for contempt of court involving an Operating While Intoxicated High BAC conviction.
