Car in the Ditch is a Drunk Driver
Deputies located a car in the ditch on Cherrybend Road near S. West Bay Shore Drive in Elmwood Township at 4:00 am on Sunday. They discovered that the 20 year old driver from Traverse City was intoxicated. She was arrested and had a Datamaster breath test reading of .23. She is free on bond pending a court appearance.Saturday February 23, 2013
Stolen Handgun recovered by Traverse City Police
The .40 caliber handgun stolen during a recent Elmwood Township home invasion has been recovered. Traverse City police responded to a city residence Saturday night after it was reported that a 29 year old man produced a gun. People at the gathering overpowered the man, took the weapon away from him and called police. The man fled before City police arrived. Police discovered that the gun had been entered as stolen by Leelanau County deputies after it was stolen on February 17. The investigation continues by both agencies.Benzonia Man Arrested on Warrant
Deputies stopped to check on a man walking on S. West Bay Shore Drive near Send Road in Bingham Township at 5:36 am Saturday. The 18 year old Benzonia man had a warrant for his arrest from Benzie County. After the arrest, the man was searched and deputies found marihuana. He is lodged in the Leelanau County jail on the drug charge pending transfer to Benzie County.Tribal Police Arrest Alanson Man
A 39 year old Alanson man wanted by Grand Traverse Band Police on a domestic violence charge was arrested in Eaton County. GTB officers picked up the man Saturday and he remains in the Leelanau County Jail pending a Tribal Court appearance.Driver arrested for Driving with Suspended License
Deputies arrested a 28 year old Traverse City man for driving with a suspended license. He was stopped for a traffic violation on E. Traverse Highway near Bugai Road in Elmwood Township at 11:29 pm Saturday. The man's license was suspended and he was arrested because of a prior driving while suspended conviction. Suicide Investigation nets 15 pounds of Marihuana
On Friday at approximately 5:20 am, the Leelanau County Sheriff's office received a call regarding the suspected suicide of a 55 year old man at his home in Kasson Township. During the course of the investigation, deputies seized approximately 15 pounds of processed marihuana and discovered evidence of a large grow operation at the residence. Upon completion of the investigation, the report will be submitted to the Leelanau County Prosecutor's Office for review.Lake Leelanau man Lodged for Probation Violation
Randy Roman, 19, of Lake Leelanau was taken into custody after a positive result on a preliminary breath test at 9:00 am Friday. The daily tests were ordered after he was convicted of being a Minor in Possession of Alcohol in Grand Traverse County. Employees at an Elmwood Township gas station called the Leelanau County Sheriff's Office to report a suspicious man who had been sitting in his vehicle in the parking lot for a couple hours. The employee also reported that they could smell burning marihuana coming from the van.Deputies responded and discovered the a 24 year old Traverse City man was in possession of marihuana. He was arrested and posted bond pending a court appearance.
Empire man Sentenced after Crash
Loren J. Faucher, 26, of Empire was sentenced to 3 days community service work after being sentenced for Use of Marihuana and Failure to Report an Accident. Faucher pleaded guilty to not reporting the crash after his vehicle was discovered rolled over off W. Traverse Highway near S. Martin's Lane at 4:58 am on February 3, 2013. Foot tracks were followed from the crash to Faucher's home but deputies were unable to get anyone to come to the door. Faucher reported the crash the following morning.Deputies found a small quantity of marihuana during an inventory search of the vehicle prior to it being towed from the scene. Faucher pleaded guilty Friday to using the drug in addition to failing to report the crash.
