Bystander Arrested on Warrant

A 35 year old Elmwood Township man was arrested Wednesday at 8:35pm at the scene of a 2 car crash.  A family member of Kevin D. Dexter was involved in a crash on E Cherry Bend Road near E. Pickwick Court.  Dexter was summoned to the scene and it was learned that there was a warrant for his arrest.  The bench warrant was issued for failing to appear for a collection hearing after being convicted of driving in violation of license restrictions.

Dexter was released after posting $360 bond.

Snowdrift captures Drunk Driver

A snowdrift on S. Center Highway helped Leelanau deputies corral a suspected drunk driver.  The 21 year old Elmwood Township man's vehicle was stuck in a snowdrift in the roadway.  A Leelanau County Road Commission plow reported the traffic hazard to law enforcement at 4:21am. 

When deputies arrived, they determined the driver was intoxicated and he was arrested for operating while intoxicated with a high blood alcohol content >.17.  He is lodged in the Leelanau County Jail pending bond being set by the magistrate.
