Bank Card Fraud Reported

A Bingham Township man reported Tuesday to the Leelanau County Sheriff's Office that his bank account had been compromised.  A detective contacted the victim's bank and learned that the suspect used the account information to create a bank card and had somehow learned the victim's PIN number as well.  $2,500 was withdrawn from ATMs in Florida using the bogus card.  The incident remains under investigation pending contact with Florida law enforcement authorities.

Home Invasion Investigated

Deputies are investigating a Cleveland Township home invasion that was reported at 5:40 pm Tuesday.  The homeowner reported that a safe was taken from the home on Hlavka Road.  Responding deputies believe that an unlocked door was used by the suspect(s) to get into the house.  Nothing else was reported stolen and the investigation is continuing.

Citizens are reminded that locking house and car doors is often enough to deter many would be thieves.  If you have any information about this home invasion please call the confidential tip line at 231-256-8696 or tips@co.leelanau.mi.us.
