Overturned kayaker brought to shore safely
Quick thinking people on shore helped to rescue an overturned kayaker in Big Glen Lake Monday. Leelanau Dispatch received a call for service at 8:37 pm with the report of an overturned watercraft and woman in the water with it. The victim was wearing a personal flotation device.Leelanau County Sheriff's deputies and marine patrol were dispatched, in addition to Glen Arbor Fire Department and their rescue boat. The original callers didn't wait for rescuers to arrive and got into their own boat and plucked the woman out of the water. When they got to shore, law enforcement and EMS were there to check out the victim, who was uninjured and did not require medical attention.
There were winds with gusts up to 30 miles per hour in Leelanau County around the time of the incident. Citizens are reminded to use caution and be aware of quickly changing weather conditions when going out onto the waters of the County.
Deputies unable to locate reported gunmen
Leelanau Dispatch received a report of 5 young males with rifles and a pistol in Northport Tuesday morning. The call was received at 1:26 am and the caller reported that the men were walking out of town on 5th St.Deputies responded and were unable to locate the men. There were no other calls involving the group and it is believed that they were playing with either paintball or Airsoft guns. There is no reason to believe the men possessed actual firearms or pose any danger to Northport residents.
