Leland Township crash lands woman in jail

A 63 year-old Leland Township woman crashed into the trees before reaching her home Wednesday night and was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated as a result.  Leelanau County Sheriff's Office deputies and Michigan State Police investigated the crash at 8:56 pm on N Manitou Trail near Birchwood Drive.  The vehicle left the roadway and ended up in the trees 10 feet off the road.

The driver showed signs of intoxication and was arrested for OWI.  The driver refused medical treatment and was given a blood test at Munson Medical Center to determine her level of intoxication.  She had a .18% prelininary breath test when booked into the jail. 

She posted $100 interim bond and was released pending a District Court appearance.


Man arrested in Emmet County on Leelanau FOC warrant

William P. Shananaquet, 37, was picked up by Leelanau Corrections officers after being lodged in Emmet County on a Friend of the Court bench warrant.  Shananaquet, of Grand Rapids, is being held on $800 bond.  He will serve 30 days in jail of bond is not posted.
