Handgun Stolen from Home

A Leelanau Township homeowner reported Wednesday that a handgun was missing from his home.  The gun was taken within the past two weeks. The Leelanau Township deputy did not find any signs of forced entry.  A piece of jewelry was also discovered missing.  It is believed a family member who has since left the area may be responsible for the theft.  The investigation is continuing.

Road Repair Reminder

With recent warmer temperatures, potholes have again begun to appear.  Not only should drivers use added care and caution to avoid crashes and vehicle damage, but also need to be aware of Road Commission repair crews.  Crews have been patching potholes along S. West Bay Shore Drive recently and will be doing so on other roads throughout the county as spring approaches.

Drivers are reminded that it is the law to yield the right-of-way by moving to the left (into the oncoming lane if no oncoming traffic is present and it is safe) when any working emergency vehicle is on the side of the road.  If it is unsafe to move into the other lane, drivers must reduce and maintain a safe speed and used due care and caution, considering weather, road conditions and vehicular and pedestrian traffic present.  Click on http://www.legislature.mi.gov/(S(5cczej31glxlpt30rh421k55))/mileg.aspx?page=getObject&objectName=mcl-257-653a for the entire Motor Vehicle Code statue dealing with this law.
