Suspended driver arrested

A traffic stop for speeding landed a Traverse City man in jail.  The 43 year-old driver originally gave the Leelanau County Sheriff's deputy a fictitious date of birth in an attempt to conceal the fact that his license was suspended.  Leelanau Dispatch was able to learn the man's correct birth date and discovered he was not supposed to be driving.

The driver was arrested for Driving With a Suspended License 2nd Offense and posted $100 interim bond after being taken to jail and booked.  He will appear in District Court Friday.

Pedestrian injured after colliding with truck

A 49 year-old Traverse City woman suffered a broken ankle after her leg was run over by a pickup truck.  Dania C. Cannon was on the sidewalk of an Elmwood Township business waiting to walk her bike east across S. West Bay Shore Drive.  Shane M. Digiovanni was waiting for southbound traffic to clear so he could make a right turn onto S. West Bay Shore Drive.

Digiovanni, 26 of Williamsburg, did not see Cannon to his right and pulled out when traffic allowed him to do so.  While doing so, his vehicle ran over Cannon's leg, breaking her ankle.

Cannon was transported to Munson Medical Center by Elmwood Rescue.  No citations were issued for the incident which occurred on private property.
